Below is our weekly recap for the week of February 13th! 

Congrats to our Athlete of the Week - Pat Rullo ‘24

Awesome article about our first ever Salute to Service Day this past Sunday as well! 

Salute to Service Day

MS Blue Basketball

The Blue team starts the playoffs this Wednesday night at St. Norbert. Good luck to the team! 

MS White Basketball

Devon Prep White Team traveled to St. Aloysius Tuesday night and was able to come away with a 34-17 victory to extend the winning streak to 5 games. Eight players were able to get in the scoring column; Matt McHugh’28 led the team with 8 points. Andrew Bouchard ‘27 and Teddy Celentano ‘28 played big on the boards with each having 5 points. Grant Napoletano ‘27’ and Gustav Najdek ‘27 added 4 points each. Charlie Kleiner ‘28 and David Vickers ‘27 chipped in 3 points and made several nice passes to get teammates involved. John Veith ‘28 had a nifty move for 2 points. Strong defense was on display by Jack Pizonka ‘28, David, Grant, Matt and Dean Huey ‘28. The white team starts their playoff Monday night at St. Denis. 

MS Gold Basketball

The MS Gold team had a 45-35 victory over St Joseph. Hunter Mishock ‘27 led the way with 11 points. Blaise DeSanto ‘27 chipped in with 10 points. Both Blaise and Cooper Fairlamb ‘27 had 2 three's a piece. Cooper did a fantastic job of creating for others. The boys did a great job of holding each other accountable and creating for each other. They also did a great job of cutting and moving the ball.

They closed the season 18-4 with that win.

Freshman Basketball

Devon prep defeated Lasalle High-school college 52-43 led behind Jayden Allen-abates 15 points.  Owen Raymond ‘26 had 13 points, Christian O’Donnell ‘26 chipped in with 10 points, Eric white Jr. ‘26 contributed 6, and Brayden Fisher ‘26 had 4 points. Devon prep defeated Souderton 60-54. Owen Raymond ‘26 led the tide with 12 points. Santo Gentile ‘26 added 6 points, Jude McCann ‘26 added 6 points, Collin Carey ‘26 added 6 points and Brennan Wood ‘26 contributed 6 points! Devon Prep defeated Lower Merion 43-38.  Owen Raymond ‘26 led the tide with 16 points, Christian O’Donell ‘26 chipped in with 9 points, Jayden Allan Bates ‘26 had 10 points and Eric White Jr. ‘26 had 6 points. The team concluded their season with a 17-5 record! 

 

JV Basketball

On February 7th, the JV team defeated Delco Christian 67-40. The team was led in scoring by Brian Kamara ‘24 with 13 points and Zach Orchard ‘24 with 12 points of his own.

Varsity Basketball

The varsity team concluded their regular season this week with two losses to Bonner and West. The team now turns their attention to the PIAA playoffs in three weeks. Before the West Catholic game, the school honored all of their alumni who have gone onto serve in the military. It was our first Salute to Service Day. 

 

 

Wrestling

The Tide wrestling team took on the George School in their final dual match of the season before heading into the postseason, along with celebrating Senior Night. Our one and only Senior, Cooper Watson ’23 was recognized before the match to show how much his coaches, teammates, and school appreciates what he’s achieved over the past 3 seasons wrestling for Devon. Cooper has made a huge contribution to the program and we look forward to see how he’ll wrestle in the postseason. As for the dual match, the Tide fell short to the George School 33-18. Throughout the dual match, there was plenty of fight and excitement on both teams. Victories were made by Michael Cline-Thomas ‘26 at 114, Shane Dugan ‘25 at 152, and Michael Degeorge at 285. 

 

Indoor Track

PCL champs took place at Lehigh University.  Carter Shaak ‘25 jumped 19-7 in the long jump.  Justin Eburuoh ‘23  ran a 7.58 in the 60 m dash, a personal best. Patrick Rullo ‘24 ran a 4:35.82 medaled and placed 5th in the mile earning him a 3rd Team All Catholic.

Ice Hockey

The Devon Prep Frozen Tide closed out their season with a 4-2 win over Radnor on Friday night. Honoring Captain Nolan Hughes ‘23 in his final game on Senior Night, the Tide rallied behind two goals by Jesse Xiong ‘26. It was Brendan Bachman ‘25 who scored the game winner and Luc Gochtovt ‘25 added a much-needed cushion to beat the Red Raiders. Grant Gale ‘26 was a magician in net once more.

 

Bowling

The Tide took on LaSalle in a tough PCL matchup. The team had a strong day on the lanes finishing with games of 883, 867, and 807 for a 2557 series but unfortunately came up a bit short as LaSalle won 4-0. Cole Wingerd '25 bowled over average with a 496 series. Gavin Ola '25 added a game 228. Christian Ottesen '23 rolled a 226 in game one. Giorgio Cipolloni '26 added a 225 in game two. The tide traveled to Thunderbird Holme Ave. to take on Archbishop Ryan in a PCL matchup. The team started slow but improved after each game. After tough losses the first two games, the Tide secured a game three victory. Arc. Ryan defeated the Tide 3-1. Giorgio Cipolloni '26 had a strong day on the lanes rolling games of 223, 226, and 211 for a nice 660 series. Gavin Ola '25 added a strong game of 204 and Cole Wingerd '25 finished his day with a 211 in game three. The squad looks to finish strong as they have two regular season matches left against Holy Ghost and Archbishop Wood!

Swimming

The Tide swimming team had their last regular season meet on 2/11 at the Lansdale YMCA against Archbishop Carroll. James Simpson ‘24 competed in the 50 Free (29.34) and 100 Fly (1:22.72). Giovanni Notaro ‘25 competed in the 50 Free (27.16) and 500 Free (7:19.57). Adam Palermo ‘25 competed in the 200 Free (2:43.90). Sean Palermo ‘26 competed in the 100 Free (1:07.25) and 100 Back (1:20.37). The boys are now shifting their focus to the District Championship, with the last chance Meet on 2/18 and Districts on 2/24 and 2/25.
