Congrats to our Athlete of the Week - Lucas Orchard '23

MS Basketball

 On January 7th Gold the MS gold team played St. Denis and won 42-39. The Tide rallied for another win with the score of 42-39 against St. Denis. Blaise DeSanto ‘27 led the way with 21 points and 4 threes. Hunter Mishock ‘27 was second in scoring with 12 points. Hunter led the game with 2 charges taken. The boys pulled together to get a key stop with 5 seconds left to close the game.  The following day on January 8th the gold team traveled to St. Katherine. The Gold team also won 48-36 against St.. Katherine. Blaise DeSanto ‘27th who led the team with 19 points. Hunter Mishock ‘27 contributed with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and led the game with 2 charges taken. Caleb Tesfaye ‘28 shot 100% from the free throw line. The boys were able to put together rebounds on St. Katherine, pulled together key defensive stops in the 4th, and made key free throws when it mattered.

 

On January 7th the MS white played St. Katherine (Gray) and lost 32-20. Devon Prep White struggled in the game.  Dean Huey ‘28 gave an all out effort, especially on the defensive end - taking a charge, getting steals and deflections. Teddy Marvin ‘27 and Gustav Najdek ‘27 led the scoring with 8 and 7 respectively.  Kellen Seal ‘28 and David Vickers ‘27 chipped in with 2 each.  Charlie Kleiner ‘28 and Jack Pizonka ‘28 had solid floor games with defense and good passing in the loss.

On January 7th our MS Blue team played Holy Child and won 21-10. Devon Prep’s 6th grade team took down Holy Child of Rosemont!  The fast break led to a steady diet of scoring opportunities. Andrew Stauffer ‘29 discovered his shot blocking touch, at one point smothering three straight shots. Jackson Fisher ‘29 continued to push the tempo and create chances for himself and others. Evan Martin ‘29 read the passing lanes all game, which consistently led to runouts. Devon’s next game is January 10th at Waldron Mercy Academy.

Freshman Basketball

On January 3rd our Conwell Egan. Devon Prep opened up league play with a 55-37 win over Conwell Egan. Eric White Jr. ‘26 led the Tide with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Owen Raymond ‘26 added 13 points, while Jayden Allan Bates ‘26 finished with 9 points. The team was back in action on January 6th vs. Lansdale Catholic and won 49-36. Devon Prep got its 2nd PCL win over Lansdale Catholic yesterday.  Jayden Allan Bates ‘26 led all scorers with 18 points in route to a 49-36 victory.

 JV Basketball

On January 3rd our JV basketball team played Conwell Egan and won 60-33. The team was led in scoring by Greg Perullo ‘24 with 25 points. Alek Shah ‘24 was also in double figures with 13 points. They followed that up on January 6th vs. Lansdale Catholic and won 38-35. The JV team defeated Lansdale Catholic 38-35. The team was led in scoring by Ayinde McLendon ‘25 with 12 points. Brian Kamara ‘24 chipped in with 8 points. Mike Pergolis ‘25 anchored our defense taking 2 charges and impacting the game with steals and rebounds. They ended their week on January 8th vs. Neumann Goretti and won 49-27. The JV team defeated Neumann-Goretti 49-27. Greg Perullo ‘24 led the team with 22 points. Ayinde McLendon ‘25 chipped in with 10 points of his own. A total collective defensive effort held NG to single digit scoring in 3 of the 4 quarters.

Varsity Basketball

On, January 3rd the varsity team kicked off their PCL season vs Conwell Egan and won 72-56. the team was led by Jacen Holloway '23 who earned a double double- 26pts and 11 rebounds and also Lucas Orchard '23 who chipped in with 23 points.  The team then was back in action on January 6th vs. Lansdale Catholic and won 68-47. The team had a great overall effort in moving to 2-0 in PCL play. On Sunday, January 8th the team played the 15th ranked team in the country- Neumann Goretti and came up a little short and lost 61-47.  The team is back in action this Wednesday as they travel to Wood for a triple header. 

Wrestling

On January 4th to face Conwell Egan. Unfortunately we lost. The Tide wrestling team traveled down the PA Turnpike to take on PCL rival, Conwell Egan. Knowing that they were about to embark in a battle with one of the top contenders in the PCL and state, they made sure to be mentally and physically prepared for their dual matchup. Even though the final result was not what the Tide was hoping for, the team fought to the end of each match and gained valuable learning experience against a strong opponent. Great performances were wrestled by Michael Cline-Thomas ‘26, Liam MacDonald ‘25, Chris Rohner ‘25, Sam Kleiner ‘25, Dylan Kenneson ‘25, Shane Dugan ‘25, Finlay Manifold ‘26, and Cooper Watson ‘23. The tide will look to bounce back next week as they have matches against both St. Joe’s Prep (11/10) and Church Farm School (11/11).

 

 

On January 7th the team attended the  UPenn vs. UNC match. On Saturday evening, the Tide wrestling team traveled down to the Palestra, the home of the University of Pennsylvania Quakers, to take on the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. The boys had the opportunity to see two top notch division I wrestling programs go head to head. This was a great opportunity for the boys to have some quality team bonding off the mat and have some fun together in an awesome sports environment. The team had a blast!

 

 

Indoor Track

On January 7th our Indoor track team travelled to the Invitational at Lehigh University. At the Track and Field Coaches Association of Greater Philadelphia Division II indoor track meet at Lehigh: Patrick Rullo ‘24 ran a 4:46 in the mile finishing in 4th and running a PA top 50 time. Carter Shaak ‘25 placed third in the long jump with a jump of 19-10.5, a top PA top 50 performance.

Ice Hockey

On January 6th our hockey team played Haverford School and lost 12-3. Devon Prep Frozen Tide fell to Haverford School on Friday. The Tide got strong play from Brendan Bachman ‘25 and Sean Massey ‘25 played his best game of the season. Lead scorer James Gabriele ‘25 paced the attack with two more goals and Frankie Hartman ‘25 added one in the loss. Next up for the Tide is Hill School on Monday afternoon.

Bowling 

On January 6th the bowling team played LaSalle and lost 4-0. After a couple weeks off, the Tide came back from break ready to take on LaSalle. The squad put together three solid games of 818, 891, and 887 for a 2596 series. Unfortunately, despite a strong effort, the Tide came up short and was defeated by LaSalle 4-0. Freshman Giorgio Cipolloni ’26 had a fantastic day on the lanes. Cipolloni broke two school records with a high game of 289 and high series of 753! Senior Christian Ottesen ‘23 had a solid day as well with games of 233 and 216!
